Why We Love It

If you want the ultimate indoor exotic plant, this chap’s your man.

The 'Cavendish' banana (or Musa acuminata, if we’re donning our Latin cap) was first brought to the UK in the 1800s.

Though it grows up to 3m in the Palm House, we’ve sourced the beautiful 'Dwarf Cavendish' variety to fit in your home.

'Dwarf Cavendish' has paddle-shaped, attention-grabbing leaves that will continue to grow and grow, adding a beautiful splash of bright architectural greenery to any indoor space.

Alas, it won't give you any bananas unless you heat your house to tropical temperatures.

Banana Tree Facts

Splitting leaves...

Banana leaves tear and split over time - for a good reason.

Originally from the tropics, bananas evolved to withstand high winds and storms - their leaves easily tearing to allow strong winds to pass through, rather than acting as a sail and pulling the whole tree from the ground.

We love the scruffy imperfection that comes to all banana trees, but don’t worry. If looked after properly, yours will regularly grow new ones.

It's not technically a tree...

It's a herb. *mind blown*

Though bananas are indeed fruits (carrying the seed of the plant), the banana tree is, in fact, a distant relation of a ginger - with a succulent tree stem, instead of a wood one.
