Why We Love It

The 'Liliput' conifer has mid-to bright green, needle-like leaves.

It produces reddish-pink cones in spring, which gradually turn pale brown.

As it's compact and dense, it is well suited to borders and containers.

How to Plant

Plant this evergreen shrub in full sun, choosing moist, well-drained clay, loam or sandy soil which is acidic or pH-neutral.

Into the Ground

Grab your gloves, some tree and shrub compost, a watering can and of course a spade or trowel.

  1. Pop the gloves on and water the potted pine well.
  2. Dig a hole that's twice the size of the rootball.
  3. Mix in some tree and shrub compost.
  4. Place the bare rootball in the hole and fill in around it.
  5. Cover the rootball and firm up.
  6. Water well and mulch in winter.
Into a Pot

Take a large container that's twice as large as the rootball, as well as your gloves, trowel, tree and shrub compost and a watering can.

  1. Pull on your gloves to prevent any needle-related accidents and soak the potted pine in its old pot.
  2. Mix garden soil and compost together in the new container.
  3. Remove the old pot and position the pine in the new one.
  4. Fill in around it with more soil and compost and pat down.
  5. Give it a drink and remember to mulch in winter.
