Why We Love It

The stems of this dogwood 'Sibirica' turn a vibrant red in winter.

In spring and summer, this shrub produces grey-green leaves and creamy-white flowers, followed by white berries in autumn.

How to Plant

Plant this shrub in full sun to achieve maximum colour and water in dry spells. It likes most well-drained soil types of any pH.

Into the Ground
  1. Water your plant well.
  2. Dig through the soil to loosen it.
  3. Make a hole twice as wide as the rootball.
  4. Place your plant in the hole. Make sure that the top of the roots are visible and level with the surface of the soil.
  5. Fill in the hole with soil, firming to remove air pockets.
  6. Firm the soil and water well.
Into a Pot

Once you've chosen the right spot for your Cornus, gather your spade, watering can and peat-free compost.

  1. Dig a deep hole roughly twice the size of the plant's rootball.
  2. Mix in a generous amount of soil and compost and add this into the hole.
  3. Gently spread the roots of the plant and then place the plant inside the hole.
  4. Backfill soil and water generously until set.
  5. Prune in spring by cutting back stems close to the ground and apply some organic matter around the base of the plant afterwards.
