Why We Love It

The branches of 'Kilmarnock' are strikingly bedecked with snowflake white pompoms in winter.

This little willow tree is equally eye-catching in spring, when it shimmers with soft and fluffy golden flowers.

How to Plant

Willows like full sun and moist, well-drained soil of any type and pH. Water well for at least two years after planting.

Into the Ground

It's easy to plant, so grab your watering tool and spade and get digging. Add some organic matter at step one if your soil is on the chalky side.

  1. Loosen the soil where you are going to be planting your Salix.
  2. Dig a hole for your plant that's twice the size of its rootball.
  3. Place your plant in the hole, gently loosening the roots as you do.
  4. Insert a stake if required.
  5. Refill the hole.
  6. Firm the soil and water well. Water regularly in dry periods during the growing season.
  7. Prune your plant every two to three years in spring.
