Why We Love It

An impressively unusual and architectural epiphytic fern which is also known as the Giant Staghorn Fern. Native to Eastern Australia.

  • Fronds can grow up to 2 metres in length.
  • Will look particularly dramatic if hung as a statement piece, mounted like real horns.
  • Tolerant of lower light conditions.

Growth pattern: Multi-branching & clump forming

Water: Bottom water when pot feels light.

Ideal Position: North or east facing

Light: Bright, indirect light.

Humidity disclaimer: This plant will grow well outside of a terrarium or cabinet. However, all tropical plants thrive with higher humidity levels. To achieve this we suggest grouping plants together, or putting them in a bathroom or kitchen which gets regular use.

Planting and Care

Into a Pot

If you're planting into a pot or container, have a hand trowel and a watering tool ready, plus a container larger than the one your plant arrived in.

  1. Pour a small amount of soil at the bottom of your chosen container.
  2. Put the plant in place and then back-fill soil around the rootball.
  3. Lightly water after repotting. The soil should be just damp enough that if you press your forefinger into the soil it is moist above the top of your nail.
  4. Regularly check the soil is moist but not soaking or sitting in water.
  5. Make sure to place your plant away from any harsh drafts.
