For the best results, plan in the ground.
Into the Ground
- Give your plant a good water, so the plant is completely soaked through.
- Dig a hole a little deeper than pot depth and at least twice as wide.
- Tip the plant out of its pot, tease out a few roots.
- Place your shrub at the same level it was in its pot, and don’t bury any stems.
- Use your heel to firm the soil around the plant.
Into a Pot
- Cover the drainage holes in your pot using stones or pieces of broken pot.
- Add the compost to your container.
- Gently loosen the roots of your plant and place it in the container.
- Check that the top of the roots is level with the top of the compost, approximately m below the edge of the container.
- Fill the container.
- Firm the compost and water well.
