Why We Love It

Ornamental grasses like Pennisetum 'Hameln' are easy and effective.

Planted in a pot individually or as part of a bigger planting plan this grass evokes a definite feeling of drama.

The feathery tufts that come out in late summer are reminiscent of popped Prosecco bottles.

It's a grass that needs centre stage especially as the green stems mellow over autumn.

How to Plant

Put Pennisetum 'Hameln' somewhere in the sun so the light catches the dramatic stems in summer and autumn.

Into the Ground

  1. Give your plant a good drink of water before planting.
  2. Dig through the soil to loosen it.
  3. Make a hole twice as wide as the rootball.
  4. Place your plant in the hole.
  5. Make sure that the top of the roots are visible and level with the surface of the soil.
  6. Fill in the hole with soil, firming with your hands gently around the plant.
  7. Water well.

Into a Pot

  1. Find a pot at least twice the size of the plant's temporary container.
  2. Raise it onto pot feet to assist drainage.
  3. Add potting compost to the pot, filling up to about three-quarters.
  4. Insert your plant into the pot, lining up the top of the rootball with just under the pot's rim.
  5. Backfill around the roots and water well.
