Why We Love It

An RHS Award winner (no biggy).

'Sir Winston Churchill' Narcissi features loose ruffles of creamy-white, double flowers, which are each flecked with orange.

The slightly ruffled appearance of these double flowers and their sweet fragrance is enchanting, making them ideal for adding to freshly cut bouquets.

Daffodils like well-drained but moist, humus rich soil in sun or partial shade. Avoid very dry areas such as under conifers.

Plant them informally in groups in beds and borders, under deciduous shrubs and trees or in lawns and outdoor containers.

Allow the foliage to die naturally as early removal can cause the bulb not to flower in the following year.

Planting Calendar

Plant in June, July, August, September, October, November.

Flowers in April.

Planting and Care

These are happy in full or partial sun with any type of neutral or alkaline soil that's moist and well-draining.

These bulbs should ideally be planted at a depth of 12cm/5 inches and a distance of 10cm/4 inches.

Into the Ground

  1. Use a fork to loosen the soil in your chosen spot.
  2. Mix in some organic compost.
  3. Dig some holes twice the size of the rootballs ensuring they're 10 cm apart from each other.
  4. Add the bulbs and backfill the holes.
  5. Water them well.

Into a Pot

  1. Find a container large enough for a few bulbs.
  2. Raise your container on pot feet to help water flow out.
  3. Fill it with soil and dig holes about twice the size of the rootballs.
  4. Pop your bulbs in the holes and gently firm the soil.
  5. Water generously.
