Jungle it up with Strelitzia nicolai, one of the most tropical-looking treasures we know.
It goes by many names, including the wild banana, thanks to its huge, paddle-shaped leaves that look a bit like those of a banana tree and the white bird of paradise, because of the exotic, feathery flowers that bloom on mature plants.
Sadly, it’s rare for these houseplants to flower, but that doesn’t stop us from loving on the lush greenery.
Fuss-free, fast-growing, full-on foliage always gets top marks with us.

How to Plant
Strelitzia nicolai loves to be in a bright, warm spot, out of direct sunlight. Give it a drink when the top layer of soil is dry (but don't let it sit in water) and mist the leaves on the regular to raise the humidity and enhance their stunning good looks.
Into a Pot
- Half fill the pot with peat-free house plant compost, mixed with a few handfuls of grit, to improve drainage.
- Remove your plant from its original container and nestle it into its new pad.
- Backfill the pot with more compost and firm the plant in.
- Give your plant a water to help it get settled.
