How to Plant
Sweet potatoes are best grown in a greenhouse, as they like it warm. If you don't have a greenhouse, plant outside in a warm, sheltered, sunny spot in full sun and water weekly.
Into the Ground
- Warm the soil with black polythene a few weeks before planting.
- Mix in some good quality compost.
- Create some small wells for the 'slips'.
- Push the sweet potato 'slips' into the soil, covering the whole stem.
- Plant them around 30 cm apart in the ground.
Into a Pot
- Find a container at least 40 cm across and 30 cm deep.
- Ensure the pot has holes for drainage.
- Fill with multi-purpose compost.
- Push the sweet potato 'slips' into the soil, covering the whole stem.
- Plant them at around 15 cm apart.
- Keep them warm and humid for a few weeks.
