Why We Love It
The Hydrangea macrophylla 'Zorro' stands out with its dark purple-black stems.
They show all year and contrast beautifully with the stunning blueish flowers that bloom in summer.
How to Plant
How to Plant
Your hydrangea is best planted in spring and autumn and will thrive in areas of partial or full shade, especially sheltered spots. It prefers acidic to neutral soil, with the pH determining the colour of the flowers. Ensure the growing medium is moist and well-draining. Pop on a pair of gloves when planting as it can be slightly aggravating to the skin.
Into the Ground
Dig a hole that's twice the size of your plant's rootball.
- Sprinkle a little of the fertiliser into the hole.
- Carefully place in your shrub.
- Backfill the hole with your soil or compost.
- Press in firmly, so the plant is snug in the ground.
- Water generously.
- Water well until it's fully established.
Into a Pot
- Select a large container for your hydrangea, so there's plenty of room for growth. Pop on some gloves and grab your trowel and watering can, along with some compost and fertiliser.
- Layer the compost in the bottom of the pot, covering the base.
- Add a little of the fertiliser.
- Place your shrub carefully on top.
- Backfill with compost so your plant is securely in place.
- Water well.
- Keep the compost moist with regular watering.
