Why We Love It

Introduce a burst of colour into your garden or patio with the 'Golden Showers' rose.

It blooms from July through to September when its usual polished green foliage makes way for sun-kissed shades of gold.

Thorny stems will weave their way up a wall (up to as much as approximately 3 metres) and some varieties will produce little red fruits after flowering.

This vibrant golden rose reliably grows in most climates enjoying full sun to partial shade – although it does prefer a sheltered spot.

It’s hardy and tolerant of most soils but it won’t say no to a generous coating of mulch to promote floral growth.

The decorative pot is sold separately.

How to Plant

'Golden Showers' will grow in most soils, but avoid any that are frozen so the roots can settle.

Into the Ground

You’ll need a spade and fork for the groundwork, along with water and compost – the more natural the better.

  1. Water your rose in its pot one last time, so it’s thoroughly hydrated.
  2. Dig a hole in the ground twice the size of the rootball, loosening the ground at the base.
  3. Spread compost around the base.
  4. Carefully take the plant from its pot and pop it inside.
  5. Refill the hole, pat down the soil and water the plant again.
  6. Tie any stems to the structure to help it along.

Into a Pot

To pot a 'Golden Showers' rose, take some compost and water, together with secateurs if you need a cutting. You'll also need some clear wrapping (cellulose film makes an excellent eco-friendly choice).

  1. If you need a cutting, snip a 10 cm shoot off just above the bud.
  2. Prepare your pot with compost, adding water until it’s soft and moist.
  3. Place your shoot into the soil, leaving half above and half below.
  4. Cover the pot with clear wrapping and place it somewhere light.
