Why We Love It

Transport your garden to the Med with this statement blue foliage.

This ornamental grass perfectly combines with other bedding favourites like cypress trees olive trees and rosemary if you're looking to give your outdoor space a Mediterranean theme.

It also grows well in a terracotta pot so is ideal for smaller spaces too. We love blue fescue (Festuca glauca) for its colour accent – an attractive steely blue shade.

Shorter than other ornamental grasses its delicate leaves rise into textural tufts creating calming focal points in your garden or container.

It ages gracefully into warm-toned foliage – but comb out the dead leaves from the plant each spring and replace every few years to revitalise its pretty blue hue.

How to Plant

Plant 'Intense Blue' in very well-drained sandy or chalky soil of any pH. Put it in full sun and soak it at least twice weekly.

Into the Ground

  1. Stand the grass in water for around 30 minutes if the roots are dry.
  2. Make a hole that's around the same depth as the rootball.
  3. Add in some organic matter.
  4. Plant the grass at the same height as it was growing in the pot.
  5. Water well and often after planting.

Into a Pot

  1. Find a pot twice the size of the rootball.
  2. Ensure it has plenty of drainage holes.
  3. Fill with good quality compost.
  4. Make a hole slightly bigger than the rootball.
  5. Place the plant into the hole at soil level.
  6. Water in well.
  7. Add some organic mulch to help it thrive.
