Erysimum 'Bowles's Mauve' 15 - 25 cm

Out of Stock

Why We Love It

Erysimum 'Bowles's Mauve' blooms with rich mauve flowers that rise above its delicately narrow grey-green leaves.

This erysimum is particularly generous as it treats you to its four-petalled blooms from late February right through until the middle of summer.

Spreading up to 1 metre in height and width this sun-loving plant will fill borders and beds with a vibrant splash of colour for months on end or instantly brighten up rock gardens.

If you prefer a more low-maintenance outdoor area the Erysimum 'Bowles's Mauve' makes an equally impressive addition to gravelled areas or plant pots.

Once you've planted it you can sit back and admire as the 'Bowles's Mauve' needs minimal upkeep once it's established.

Planting and Care

The 'Bowles's Mauve' is a sun worshipper, so make sure it's positioned to catch plenty of rays. It's best suited to well-drained chalk, loam or sand soil that is preferably alkaline. Keep your secateurs handy in the autumn, as this plant benefits from some light pruning after flowering.

Into the Ground

Choose a sunny spot for your 'Bowles's Mauve' and grab your trowel, watering tool and optionally some grit for drainage.

  1. Make a hole twice the size of your plant’s rootball.
  2. Position your plant firmly in the hole. You can also add a handful of grit to the hole to aid drainage, then backfill with soil.
  3. Water regularly and lightly trim once it's flowered.
  4. Avoid planting this and other erysimums too close to one another, to allow them room to grow.

Into a Pot

The 'Bowles's Mauve' will grow happily in a pot on a patio or terrace. To do this, you'll need a suitably sized container (with drainage holes), some soil, a trowel and a watering tool. You might also want some grit to help with drainage.

  1. Fill your container with soil and make a hole twice the size of the rootball.
  2. Position the plant firmly in the hole. You can also add a handful of grit to assist with drainage.
  3. Backfill with soil.
  4. Water regularly and lightly trim once it's flowered.
