How to Plant
How to Plant
Plant in well-drained, pH-neutral soil of any type, in full or partial sun. Water regularly until established and during dry spells.
Into the Ground
Give your Clematis a large pot and something to climb.
- Raise your container on pot feet to aid drainage.
- Add a small amount of potting mix to the bottom of the container.
- Pop your plant in the soil with the top of the rootball slightly beneath the rim of the pot.
- Backfill the hole with your compost and cover the top of the rootball to a depth of 6 cm.
- Gently tamp down and water well.
Into a Pot
- Grab your spade, fork and a watering hose, along with some all-purpose compost.
- Fork compost into the top 20-30 cm of the soil.
- Dig a hole double the size of the plant's rootball.
- Pop your Clematis into the hole. Clematis like to be planted deep, so position the top of the rootball at least 6 cm below the surface of the soil.
- Backfill and gently tamp down the soil around the roots.
- Water well, and keep doing so until it's properly established.
