Why We Love It

The dazzling white 'Silver Anniversary' camellia is a delicate beauty with flowers that arrive at the end of winter and last through spring.

'Silver Anniversary' is a perfect plant partner that will allow others room to grow with its upright aspect making it a suitable choice for compact spaces and borders.

With its handsome evergreen foliage the plant can also be used as a hedge or screen.

Part of the Camellia japonica family that has a heritage stretching back more than a thousand years this variety boast golden stamens that form a striking counterpoint to the white petals.

Camellias symbolise the union of two lovers as the petals stay joined to the leafy calyx even after they drop from the plant.

The decorative pot is sold separately.

How to Plant

Camellias are fairly sensitive types and their new leaves and flower buds won't appreciate being too cold. Plant them in a sheltered, partially shaded location in neutral or acidic soil.

Into the Ground

Ready to plant your camellia? Grab your spade, a watering tool and some compost.

  1. Soak the plant with water in its pot.
  2. Dig a hole double the size of the plant's rootball.
  3. Remove the plant from its pot, teasing out a few roots to give them a helping hand exploring the soil.
  4. Insert the plant in the hole, lining up the top of the rootball with the ground.
  5. Backfill with soil and any compost you're using.
  6. Water well.
  7. Feed with fertiliser in early spring and again in June.

Into a Pot

With its compact size, 'Silver Anniversary ' is well suited to growing in a pot. Grab your spade, a watering tool and some ericaceous, peat-free compost.

  1. Raise your container on bricks or pot feet to prevent waterlogging.
  2. Fill around two-thirds of your container with the compost.
  3. Make a hole twice the size of the plant's rootball.
  4. Pop the plant in the hole, positioning the top of the rootball around 5 cm below the rim.
  5. Backfill around the roots with compost.
  6. Water well.
