Why We Love It

Bring the cool refreshing and unmistakable aroma of mint to your outdoor space.

The perennial Mentha produces small textured leaves in bold green shades that have a variety of uses in cooking.

They can be harvested from summer to autumn and once picked you could enjoy fragrant fresh tea or use them in a mojito.

Just check what variety you’re growing – although mint has a long history of health and medicinal benefits not all kinds are for eating.

Mint is easy to grow and looks beautiful placed beneath a windowsill (inside or out).

In the ground it will be at home between paved areas as this will control its vigorous and wide-spreading growth.

The decorative pot is sold separately.

How to Plant

Planting mint is simple – just keep an eye on its speedy growth with either regular pruning or by harvesting its aromatic leaves. Choose soil or compost that’s slightly acidic, as well as rich and moist. If you’re growing from seed, then spring (after the frosty mornings are behind us) is the time to plant. Mint is fuss-free when it comes to sun, so a shaded area will work for planting.

Into the Ground

When popping mint into the ground, bear in mind that it will grow quickly, so a patio edge makes a handy place to plant it to stop it from spreading too far. You’ll need a trowel and some compost, along with a little water.

  1. Dig a hole in the ground that is twice the size of the rootball.
  2. Place your mint into the hole and secure it with compost.
  3. Carefully water your plant, but don’t leave the soil waterlogged or dry – moist ground is perfect.
Into a Pot

To plant mint into a pot, pick a slightly acidic compost and grab your trowel to get started.

  1. Fill your pot with compost.
  2. Dig a hole twice the size of the rootball and pop your mint inside.
  3. Add extra compost and coat it with water, leaving it moist and soft.
  4. If your pot becomes too dense, then simply remove the rootball, split it and repot it with fresh compost.
