Why We Love It

Euonymus fortunei also known as 'Spindle Emerald 'n' Gold' will bring a blaze of yellow colour to light up your outdoor space. This evergreen shrub provides colourful foliage all year round and come winter the yellow-edged leaves can take on a reddish-bronze tint.

A great option for ground cover this dwarf shrub makes excellent dense hedges in your garden. It's a vigorous climber if supported so you can train it against a shady wall – perfect for adding some life to your patio or balcony. You can easily prune it to the height and shape you prefer. The best part is that it requires little in the way of maintenance and its resistance to disease means that's another thing you won't have to worry about.

The decorative pot is sold separately. Find the perfect base for any style of planting explore our full range of pots here.

How to Plant

Euonymus fortunei needs decent air circulation, so while it will enjoy a position against a wall, avoid pushing it into a corner. It should do well in any type of soil and with any amount of sunlight.

Into the Ground

Ready to plant your Euonymus fortunei? Wear your gloves, grab your spade and a watering can or hosepipe.

  1. Dig a hole twice the size of the plant's rootball.
  2. Place your plant into the hole.
  3. Backfill around the roots and tamp down gently.
  4. Water well to help the soil settle around the roots.
  5. Wash your hands after handling.
  6. In late spring, prune young plants to encourage bushy growth. Apply a mulch of well-rotted compost around the base of the plant.
Into a Pot

Euonymus fortunei makes an ideal container plant. It can be planted any time of year, but March to April and September to October are the best times.

  1. Wear your gloves.
  2. Raise your container on pot feet to assist with drainage.
  3. Fill the container to a few centimetres below the brim with peat-free potting compost.
  4. Remove the plant from the container it came in and tease out the roots.
  5. Place your Euonymus fortunei into the hole.
  6. Gently backfill around the roots and tamp down.
  7. Water well.
  8. Wash your hands after handling.
