Why We Love It

Add year-round greenery to your outside space with the low-maintenance Euonymus fortunei 'Emerald Gaiety'.

Its rounded leaves are edged with white for much of the year until winter arrives and the tips turn a pinkish hue.

In summer you may even see a few clusters of green flowers.

This bushy evergreen shrub does a good job of covering the ground so it's great for filling in borders and – as a bonus – needs very little pruning.

'Emerald Gaiety' is hardy and isn't too fussy about the weather – it will flourish in full or partial sun and will grow in most soil types.

Just be sure to pop it in a spot that drains well and it'll be perfectly at home.

The decorative pot is sold separately.

How to Plant

This easygoing shrub will happily grow in most conditions. Sun and partial shade are both equally suitable for this undemanding plant. It doesn't like to get too wet though, so moist but well-draining soil is preferable. 'Emerald Gaiety' can be toxic, so wearing gloves while planting is a good idea.

Into the Ground

You'll need some gardening gloves, a digging tool and a watering can at the ready. Along with some soil or peat-free compost.

  1. Dig a hole roughly twice the size of your plant's rootball.
  2. Place your shrub centrally in the hole and fill it in with soil or compost.
  3. Water well and top up with soil or compost if needed.
Into a Pot

The 'Emerald Gaiety' also grows well in a container. It'll need a bit of space to grow, so choose a good-sized planter. You'll need moist soil or peat-free compost, a trowel and a watering can. Before you start, pop on some gloves to protect your hands.

  1. Pour a small amount of soil or compost into your pot.
  2. Sit your plant on top and fill it in with your soil or compost until it feels secure.
  3. Give it some water and add a little more soil if needed.
