Why We Love It

The versatile Viburnum is a bushy, evergreen shrub that makes for a distinctive focal point in a variety of landscapes and backdrops. Known for its pretty foliage, eye-catching flowers and oval-shaped glossy leaves, the shrub makes an excellent addition to borders, beds, hedges or screens. It's also wonderfully low-maintenance, requiring minimal pruning apart from the occasional snip in summer to keep it looking fresh. In late winter and spring, you can expect to see clusters of delicate flowers. These fragrant blooms will be bold white or have a pink-tinged hue to them. They will soon be followed by bright blue-black berries to add yet another pop of colour to your garden.

The decorative pot is sold separately. Find the perfect base for any style of planting, explore our full range of pots here.

How to Plant

The Viburnum is a hardy shrub that's best suited to planting in the spring. It tends to prefer sunny, sheltered positions. It can also thrive when grown in a container, as long as it has plenty of space, excellent drainage, and is protected from cold, drying winds.

Into the Ground

If you're planting into the ground, have a spade and a watering tool ready, along with some moist but well-drained soil or peat-free multi-purpose compost.

1. Dig a hole that is twice the size of the Viburnum's rootball.

2. Carefully remove the plant from its container and place it in the planting hole, back-filling with soil until it is secure.

3. Water thoroughly so that moisture reaches the roots, adding extra soil as needed.

Into a Pot

If you're planting into a pot or container, you'll need the same tools, plus a considerably large container that will have enough space for your Viburnum to grow.1. Pour a small amount of soil into the bottom of your chosen container.

2. Put the shrub in place and then back-fill with soil around the rootball.

3. Water thoroughly and add more soil as needed.

4. Keep the soil moist, especially in hot temperatures, but be sure not to overwater.
