Why We Love It

Calluna vulgaris, or heather as it's more commonly known as, is an attractive evergreen shrub with a sweet scent.

A bee magnet, you'll get charming upright stems of flowers that bloom from late summer into autumn.

How to Plant

Heathers like full sun or partial shade and acidic, well-drained soil.

Into the Ground

You’ll need your spade and some ericaceous (acidic) compost.

  1. Gently remove your plant from the pot it arrived in.
  2. Dig a hole that's twice the size of the plant's rootball.
  3. Pop the plant into the hole, so that the top of the rootball is slightly below soil level.
  4. Add in your ericaceous compost, firming it up as you go.
  5. Water your heather thoroughly.
Into a Pot

You’ll need your spade and some ericaceous (acidic) compost.

  1. Cover the drainage holes in your pot using stones or pieces of broken pot.
  2. Add the ericaceous compost to your container.
  3. Gently loosen the roots of your plant and place it in the container.
  4. Check that the top of the roots is level with the top of the compost, approximately 2.5cm below the edge of the container.
  5. Fill the container.
  6. Firm the compost and water well.
