Why We Love It

'Azurika' is one of the smallest rhododendrons and produces heaps of purply-blue flowers in late spring.

The neat plant reaches a height of approximately 75 cm making it the perfect choice for a smaller space or a container.

Pop it in a pot on your patio where you can admire its purple flowers.

Like all rhododendrons Azurika's ideal soil must be acidic moist and free-draining.

If you have alkaline soil simply plant the evergreen shrub in a container using ericaceous compost.

Position it somewhere it can soak up some rays but be sure to place it where it won't get the full glare of the morning sun.

Get all this right and you'll be rewarded with an abundance of richly-coloured blooms.

The decorative pot is sold separately.

How to Plant

This little shrub needs moist but free-draining acidic soil and to be in a sheltered spot. Rather than trying to adjust the pH of alkaline soil, grow your 'Azurika' in a pot filled with ericaceous compost. As a dwarf variety, it fits neatly in a large pot.

Into the Ground

For planting into the ground, you'll need a spade, ericaceous compost and an acidic mulch like bark.

  1. Prepare the soil by digging in the compost. Mix well.
  2. Dig a hole that's twice the size of the rootball.
  3. Soak the rootball and tease out the roots.
  4. Place the plant in the hole, and backfill.
  5. Water well and add mulch.
  6. Feed it in the spring and summer with an ericaceous feed.

Into a Pot

This dwarf rhododendron is perfect for a container and needs a sheltered, partially sunny spot. You'll need a spade, a large pot with a drainage hole, ericaceous compost and an acidic mulch like bark.

  1. Prepare the pot by creating a drainage layer
  2. Add a small amount of compost.
  3. Gently tease out the roots from the rootball.
  4. Soak the rootball.
  5. Pop the plant into the pot and fill the pot with compost.
  6. Water well and mulch the top.
  7. Give it some ericaceous feed in the spring and summer, to keep the soil acidic.
