Why We Love It

Fuchsia-toned and bee-friendly blooms grow in abundance on the 'Starlight Express' climbing rose.

From June through to early October you'll enjoy cascades of deep pink flowers up your walls and fences.

It's also ideal for training up an archway or trellis but no matter where it's planted it will give you a sweetly-scented continuous show of colour.

Throughout the season remember to remove any fading rosettes to keep the display vibrant and full for as long as possible.

This rose bush has dark green deciduous foliage that adds nice contrast during the flowering months before dropping off in winter – the perfect time to prune dead or crossing stems to prepare for a vigorous return in spring.

The decorative pot is sold separately.

How to Plant

Preferring sun and free-draining soil, 'Starlight Express' just needs the right spot to flourish. It may be worth protecting the roots in cold winter weather to ensure a happy bloomer come spring.

Into the Ground

The 'Starlight Express' is a hungry, vigorous climber, so give it the best start in the ground with some mycorrhizal fungi, compost, your trowel and watering can. Remember to have your support ready before you begin planting.

  1. Give the potted rose a good drink to prepare the roots and position your support.

  1. Dig a hole twice the size of the rootball at the base and mix in plenty of compost.

  1. Remove the old pot and sprinkle mycorrhizal fungi in the hole.

  1. Position the rootball directly in the hole

  1. Backfill the hole and pat down.

  1. Water well until established and tie in new climbing shoots.

Into a Pot

Container planting is great for climbing roses. Choose your support and take your compost, mycorrhizal fungi, a pot twice the size of the old, your trowel and some water.

  1. Sit the potted rose in water to prep the roots.

  1. Fill the base of the new, larger container with compost and soil.

  1. Sprinkle mycorrhizal fungi in the hole and place the rootball right on top.

  1. Fill in around it with more compost and soil, then firm up and top up the container.

  1. Water well and encourage new roots to climb the support system.

  1. Raise the container on pot feet to encourage drainage.
