Why We Love It

The 'Compassion' Rose is adorned with large salmon-pink flowers tinged with apricot.

The first blooms appear in late spring to provide a stunning summer backdrop then repeat-flowering keeps them going until autumn rolls around.

They're wonderfully fragranced too so position them somewhere you can enjoy the scent.

It's a versatile variety that can be grown as a freestanding shrub although it's most in its element when allowed to climb up walls and fences.

To see the 'Compassion' rose at its best give it a sunny spot with fertile moist but well-drained soil.

The rose's resistance to disease makes it a suitable option for novice and experienced gardeners alike.

The decorative pot is sold separately.

How to Plant

The 'Compassion' rose isn't fussy about soil type or acidity levels. It does prefer full sunshine though, and if you give it a wall or garden structure to climb up it can really extend itself.

Into the Ground

If you're keen to get your 'Compassion' rose into the ground you'll need a couple of things. Grab your trowel, a watering can and some compost. Make sure you've picked a nice sunny spot for your shrub too.

  1. Dig a hole for the plant that's twice the size of the rootball.
  2. Pop the rootball in the hole so it's level with the surface.
  3. Then backfill the hole with soil and compost.
  4. Water in well.
  5. Apply a mulch in late winter or early spring, then a balanced fertiliser again at the beginning of summer.

Into a Pot

You'll need a container large enough for the rose to spread its roots, along with, a spade or trowel, a watering tool and a mix of compost and potting soil.

  1. Raise your container on bricks so water can drain away easily.
  2. Dig a hole double the size of the plant's rootball.
  3. Plant your rose, with the graft union (the point where the branches start) level with the top of the soil.
  4. Backfill with compost and soil and water well.
  5. Every two or three years, pot up with fresh compost.
