Why We Love It

If you like variegated leaves try sage 'Tricolor'.

The foliage of this spreading evergreen herb has white silver and purple accents throughout the year.

Light blue flowers bloom in summer attracting pollinators.

How to Plant

This perennial herb will live for a number of seasons and flower annually as long as it's given the occasional light pruning. Once you pick the leaves, chop them immediately for a fresh ingredient or dry and save them for later use.

Into the Ground

Before you do anything, choose a location that is well-drained and free from weeds. Then grab your spade, watering tool, soil and well-rotted organic matter.

1. Dig a hole that is twice the size of the herb's rootball.

2. Gently remove your plant from its original container, teasing out the roots.

3. Hold your sage in place and then backfill soil with a spade or by hand.

4. Water thoroughly then cover the surface with organic matter.

Into a Pot

The most important thing when planting herbs in a pot is to be sure it has drainage holes and enough space for your herb to grow.

1. Add some stones or gravel to your pot to help with drainage.

2. Sprinkle in some soil then pop your plant in.

3. Backfill the rest of the soil, firm up and then water.
