Why We Love It

Petroselinum crispum or 'French Parsley' is a fragrant cooking herb.

It grows in clumps of delicate dark-green leaves which have a strong and subtly sweet flavour.

How to Plant

This plant thrives in a sunny or lightly shaded spot, in well-drained soil of any pH. Harvest the leaves from June to October.

Into the Ground

Once you're ready to offer your French parsley plant a home, give it plenty of water so that it remains moist before you start planting. Have your spade, watering tool, compost and some well-rotted organic matter on hand.

  1. Dig a hole that is twice the size of the plant's rootball.
  2. Water the hole (if the ground is dry) and then ease the rootball in.
  3. Fill gaps around the sides with soil, then firm up and water.
  4. Add the organic matter to the surface of the soil to prevent weeds.
Into a Pot

If you choose to grow your French parsley in a container, make sure it has drainage holes and enough space for the roots to spread. Keep an eye on air and ventilation in summer and give it plenty of sunlight whether growing it indoors or outdoors.

  1. Add some gravel or stones to the bottom of your pot before adding compost.
  2. Place the French parsley plant in the pot, backfilling and firming up the soil.
  3. Water often until well-established.
